First a picnic lunch in Commonwealth Park,
near the playground equipment.

Then off to see Floriade - the theme this year was
Aussie Myths and Legends.

Dame Edna Everage built out of a mower
was one of the highlights for me.
However I only saw it later when
the creator was taking it home
at the end of Floriade, hence no picture.

Well I had to tell you "The Librarians" have a blog - this is hosted by the professional association - Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).

It was a bit windy the day we wondered around the lake, near the National Library.

Glass works

Located in the historic Kingston Powerhouse, the Canberra Glassworks, opened in May 2007, are a one of a kind attraction for artists and vistors alike. For more information, click the link above.

Two entrances, carpark and lakeside

One part of the gallery leads to the old smoke stack that has been preserved and the base is a gallery.

Upstairs you can walk around above an open space that at one end includes the ovens for the glass demonstrations.

And an area where visitors can watch the glass being worked.

The roof struts and the pulleys have been preserved making it a fantastic space to visit and to work in.

At the far end of the building classes in glass making are held. There is a cafe and and a shop for purchasing glass goods that have been made by the local artists.

Precipitation

The grand total rainfall since 9am yesterday in Tuggeranong is 18mm.

A mere 12.2mm of rain has fallen since 9am this morning - who hoo!!!!

I cannot remember the last time we had rain in double digits.

The Librarian's

The Librarian's is a new show starting on the ABC on the 31st of October 2007.

I of course will be watching the first episode from the comfort of the National Library Auditorium with many other mad-folk Librarians, partaking of nibbles and drinks.

Car wash

On our journey through the school holidays we took a detour through the carwash.

Into the abyss carwash we go - I hate going through carwashes - I am never quite sure when I am supposed to do something. The kids on the other hand love every minute of it.

Darkness descends and we are surrounded!!!

this is some sort of preparation for Halloween

and now we are out the other side and live to tell the tale.

Reconciliation Place

During the school holidays we visited Reconciliation Place:

Ngunnawal - the name of the Canberra Indigenous people.

The strange stones are actually yam's called Kwi'ith Man and Woman Yam.

The wind through the reeds made an amazing noise, the reeds and the trees were an interesting contrast to the deep blue sky. The official name of this art is Fire and Water. Reconciliation place runs from the National Library through to the High court, with various art works and written material describing what Reconciliation is all about. For more information about the other art in Reconciliation Place, click here.

Return to Monash

The three little pigs?

On Monday we took off for home and stopped off in Berrima for a browse.

Spending the weekend away from home nearly killed AJR as he had had no computer games all weekend and he was keen to get home to his electronic toys. Meandering through Berrima was not high on his agenda.

While in Berrima it was blowing a gale - as we crossed a park a branch fell from a tree and missed all of us!!! We ran across the rest of the park. We had a lovely lunch at the Magpie Cafe, which is open for breakfast lunch and dinner 7 days a week. We mooched around many of the shops and checked out the old gaol and courthouse, as well as the church.

We passed the Surveyor General Inn, Australia's oldest continually licensed inn. We remembered a previous time in Berrima with my brother and his family, when the boys got drinks from this Inn.
